Switch Activities

In LIFE Skills, switch activities can be a great tool to get active learners engaged. There are several times over the years that I have walked into a classroom and seen students excluded. Often times, the teacher has said they are just not sure what to do with students who are classified as an active learner because of the severity of their disability or the complexity of their needs.

The first thing to remember is that all students deserve and have the right to be included in the activities you are teaching. It is the job of the teacher and staff to make access possible. It is not them… it’s you! One way you can do that is to use switch activated devices as training to get a student to develop a reliable response mode. This may be the pre-requisite skill needed to get a student ready for more in-depth academics. Switch activities for LIFE Skills that can be a great tool for active learners. NoodleNook.Net

I suggest checking out the Symbaloo mix here to access some great switch activated activities at several different levels. Remember, the point is not to pacify or occupy a student- if that is your goal, reflect on the real purpose. It should be skill development and to learn about cause and effect more reliably.
